Shadrach Gerry, the subject of this sketch, was born in
Davonshire, England, Dec. 25, 1803 and died at Millburn, Ill.,
June 23, 1893. Mr. Gerry came to this country in 1842, settling on
Government land near Millburn, in this county, on which he had
lived ever since. His family consisted of six boys and two girls,
all grown up and gone out from the old home except Hannah and
Edmond, the two youngest, who have stayed at home caring for
father and mother to the last. Mr. Gerry was a member of the
Congregational church at Millburn, for many years. He was a good
neighbor and a very indulgent father, honest in all his dealings,
a man without enemies and dying as he had lived, in full faith
that all would be well.
