John Thayer

Born December 19, 1786(5?) in Belchertown, Mass. Son of Reuben and Rachel Stetson Thayer. Married Mary Howard on April 26, 1807. See tree above for children and then reference their entries. Settled in Amherst, Mass., where he was a shoemaker. Then to Hinesburg, Vermont, to Jamestown, Chautauqua County, New York, then to Belchertown, Mass. Came to area in 1837. Settled on land just west of Millburn purchased from the government. Bought more land over time. Died March 18, 1865, at age 78 years and 3 months.

Mary Howard

Also variously known as Polly Hayward. Born October 20, 1788. Married John Thayer on April 26, 1807. Founding member of Millburn Church. Died June 24, 1863, at age 74 years, 8 months, and 24 days.

Born January 11, 1809. Married Erastus Cory, November 28, 1827. Settled in Amherst, Mass.

Gideon Stetson

Born June 16, 1811. Married Eunice A. Wheeler, March 30, 1835, in Pelham, Mass. Married Sarah M., born July 31, 1821 and died December 31, 1890.
Children: Died May 01, 1898 (obituary).

Betsey Wales

Born April 6, 1813. Married Charles Hastings, October 24, 1829.

Caroline

Born February 22, 1815. (These details are somewhat in doubt. Previous genealogists may have confused Caroline and Charlotte) Married Philo Wilson in 18??. Children by Philo: Philo, born about 1843. Married William M. Kingsbury about July 12, 1844. Children by William Kingsbury: John, born about 1845; Caroline, born about 1847; Angeline, born about 1849. Kingsbury went to California in 1850 where he died in 1851. Married John Crappo on December 25, 1851.

Daughter

Born October 14, 1816, died same day.

Sarah

Born August 30, 1817, in New York. Married John Stetson, a shoemaker, on May 13, 1837. Settled in Antioch, Ill. Children by John Stetson: Mary, born January 26, 1840. Married Marshall E. Land on September 30, 1848. He was a joiner. Settled in Waukegan, Ill. Children by Marshall E. Land: Martha, born July 11, 1849. Mr. Land started for California in 1850 and was never heard from again.

Charlotte

Born October 30, 1819.

Son

Born October 20, 1820, died July 16, 1821.

William Emerson

Read biographical sketch written in
1877.

Born November 22, 1823, in Northampton, Hampshire County, Mass. Settled in Millburn in 1838, coming from Mass. Married Janet Strang, September 14 (17?), 1845, in Millburn, by Moses Lampier, Justice of the Peace. Children. One of the earliest settlers in Lake County. Came in 1838 with but 25 cents. Died Sunday, May 21, 1893, of heart failure at age 71 (obituary).

Born February 11, 1824, died January 5, 1828.

Esther Marie

Also known as Esther Mariah. Born April 25, 1828 in Mass. Married George Shatswell about October 22, 1844. Children: Sarah C., born about 1850 in Illinois; Margaret, born about 1853 in Illinois; William E., born about 1856 in Illinois; Maria L, born 1866; Mary, born about 1867 in Illinois; Esther, born 1868. Moved to Waukegan, Illinois.

Daughter

Born August 12, 1836, died August 13, 1836.

service. Married Susanna Chope about March 12, 1861. Died while a prisoner of war, probably at Andersonville.

Abigail

Born 1842 in Mass. Married Gilbert Frazier about November 1, 1861. Children.

George

Born March, 1844 in Mass. Married Lydia Wright about February 15, 1868. Children: Jessie, born December, 1885. Stone mason. Saloon keeper.

James Frank

Born 1846 in Mass. Married Emma C. Davis about August 18, 1871.

Mary J.

Born 1848. Married Eugene D. Wallis about September 29, 1876.

Rufus

Born February 29, 1850. Married Carrie E. Nelson about February 16, 1871. She was born November 5, 1858 and died June 10, 1913. Died April 10, 1913, in Kansas.

Born July 6, 1846, at Millburn, Ill. About July 15, 1865, married John Kennedy Adams, born May 26, 1839, in Mass., but who had been in Millburn for quite a time. Children: Charles F., born June 20, 1867, married Mamie (unknown), and divorced in 1899, married Kittie B. Lawson on June 5, 1900, at Waukegan, died November 18, 1918, at Chicago, Illinois; Mary Mayme, born 1869, married Ralph Herbert Adams died August 4, 1935; Emma Louise, born July 23, 1871, in Chicago, married Frank Webb on November 6, 1889, at Lake Villa, Illinois, died July 11, 1947. Member D.A.R. Died August 19, 1872.

Parnell Munson

Known as Barney. Born near Millburn on October 8, 1848 (1849?). Married Fannie M. Board, born in 1857. She died in 1924. Children: Clarence William, born October 9, 1879, married Mrs. Alice Smith, died October 8, 1962, in Oshkosh, Wis.; Earl Emerson, born August 20, 1881, photographer, married Helen Thelma Klippstein on July 28, 1913, at Grand Rapids, Michigan, died December 11, 1932; Howard, born March 16, 1895, married Grace Raynor on October 14, 1919. Decorator. Deer hunter. Died Friday, May 14, 1915, of stomach cancer at age 52. (

John Strang

Born April 10, 1853, on the Thayer homestead just west of Millburn. Did not marry. Died July 1, 1925, in Antioch, Ill., at age 72.

George Emerson

Born November 11, 1856, on Thayer farm. Did not marry. Died January 26, 1894, in Millburn, Illinois. (obituary)

Margaret Medora

Born June 13, 1860, on Thayer farm. Known as Dora. Married George Edgar Webb on November 21 (20?), 1883. He was born June 24, 1858, at Hickory Corners, a few miles north of Millburn, and died May 11, 1918. Children: Mary Elizabeth, born March 23, 1885, died on October 13, 1957, at Antioch, Illinois; Raymond Lee, born August 1, 1889, died on June 5, 1958, at Antioch, Illinois.
